lets get this thing going - 2007/04/13 23:32 Hello

I moved to Chilliwack a year ago from Britain & have been desperate for a decent game of Footy ever since.

My silky skills are deteriorating fast & as I am now an auld git (43) it doesn't get any easier to keep fit.

How do we get this ball rolling!? I am not travelling to Aldergrove (as I have done a few times already) just to train.

My questions are these:

1) Is anyone interested in setting up a decent masters team?

2) If not, how about just a good recreational team?

3) Is there anywhere to play 5-a-side outdoor or indoor? I think you call it Futsal or something?

4) I want to keep training & work on fitness too. does anyone else?

5) Does anyone think Steve McLaren is the perfect manager for England coz he's crap? (I'm Scottish)

I have played football all my life & to a pretty good level & I have heard that there are a few decent older players around - where are you then when the call goes out?

I enclose a photo of me winning the British Colleges Cup Final in 1984 - I'm the blurry one to the right of the keeper - fame at last!

To finish I would like to say..."COME ON THE WACK!

Re:lets get this thing going - 2007/04/27 22:39 Understand completely.

I've been in Chilliwack for 4 yrs. Great area for youth soccer but I haven't been able to locate any rec programs for men's footie either (5-a-side or league).

I use to run a drop in program for the kids I worked with and I think I benefited the best (stomach shrunk & stamina went up).

Likewise cannot travel much outside of Chilliwack due to work and family commitments so something local would be good.

John feel free to give me a shout and maybe together we can work something out.

BTW - welcome to the Wack from a fellow Scot

PS. no comment on Steve McLaren.

Re:lets get this thing going - 2007/05/04 10:37 Thanks for replying,

I thought the Wack had let me down there... Maybe we are kidding ourslves here though?..I played for a team at work the other day & was, lets be honest, aghast at the poor standard of play.

What do you think we need to do to get even a good kick around every week & do you think there is anybody that is really that interested?

Not judging by the hoardes replying to my call to arms!!

To be honest I want to have a good game but I am not really willing to be trekking all over the Fraser Valley for it, or spending loads of time trying to find players.

I was wondering whether putting some posters up about a drop in kick around somewhere would get some response?

Any suggestions?

JD

Re:lets get this thing going - 2007/05/05 21:02 Not being over 40 kind of limits me a bit reddman..maybe I could lie about my age...most ppl get it wrong anyway!

As for the rec teams...what is the league schedule like?

Johnscone:
where abouts in Scotland were you from?
not too many Scots here in Chilliwack but I know plenty of ppl looking to move to BC from the UK (not sure why yet! LOL).

If you want you can drop me a line on my email: aly_m05@yahoo.ca

Re:lets get this thing going - 2007/05/06 16:21 Well the games are saturdays at 12 or 2. Either in Chilliwack or Abby. The over 40's anybody can go doesn't matter of age but it is mostly older guys. If you need a team or want to put one in the rec league just let me know...
